#What is it

What is invisible braces and what makes them different?

What is invisible braces and what makes them different?

The invisible dental appliance is a system of transparent alignments which aligns the teeth progressively, without metal brackets and without metal springs. At Dental Science we use the Spark system, developed by Ormco, a world leader in orthodontic solutions.

The patient wears a series of clear mouthpieces, each designed to achieve progressive and controlled tooth movement. The trays are changed every 1 to 2 weeks, and each new set continues to align the teeth according to the treatment plan set by Dr. Alina Gheorghiu.

The modern materials used in invisible aligners simultaneously offer a constant force on the teeth, superior color resistance and o smooth surface which reduces gingival irritation. Clinical studies show that the state-of-the-art aligners maintain their transparency very well, meaning they remain inconspicuous throughout wear, even in contact with coffee or tea.

The modern design of the aligners also brings another important advantage: the contour extends closer to the edge of the gum, providing better retention and superior control of dental movements, without requiring very many attachments stuck to the teeth. In practice, this means a more discreet and comfortable treatment.

At Dental Science, in Sector 6, Bucharest, every invisible orthodontic treatment starts with an o 3D digital scan made with MEDIT oral scanner. This scan completely replaces classic fingerprints, providing a more comfortable experience for the patient and a significantly higher accuracy in aligner design.

How does invisible aligners treatment work at Dental Science?

Orthodontic treatment with invisible aligners at Dental Science follows a clear, digitally planned protocol from start to finish. Here are the stages each patient goes through:

1. Initial consultation and full assessment

The treatment starts with a consultation at our clinic in Lujerului area, sector 6, Bucharest. Dr. Alina Gheorghiu performs a complete clinical exam, reviews x-rays and photographs, and discusses with the patient expectations, goals, and available options. At this stage we determine whether the invisible brace is the right solution for the case in question.

2. Digital scanning

If the patient is a suitable candidate for treatment with aligners, we perform a full 3D digital scan of both dental arches. The MEDIT oral scanner captures high-resolution images in minutes without discomfort, completely eliminating the need for classic fingerprints.

3. Personalized treatment plan

Based on the digital scan, Dr. Alina Gheorghiu designs the treatment plan: the number of aligners needed, the estimated duration, the dental movements planned for each stage. The patient can view the estimated end result before starting treatment, which ensures transparency and alignment of expectations. This is extremely important for our patients in sector 6, who appreciate the opportunity to see concretely what their smile will look like at the end of treatment.

4. Manufacture and delivery of aligners

The aligners are custom made in specialized laboratories, based on the approved digital plan. Each set of grommets is designed with micrometric precision to achieve exactly the planned movements.

5. Wearing aligners and periodic checks

The patient wears each set of aligners for a minimum of 22 hours a day, removing them only during meals and for oral hygiene. Checkups are done periodically at our clinic in sector 6, usually every 6 to 8 weeks. At each check-up, Dr. Alina Gheorghiu checks the progress of the treatment and provides the patient with the following sets of alignments.

6. Termination and Contention

After the last aligner, the patient receives a retainer that maintains the long-term results. The retention phase is essential: without it, the teeth can gradually return to their original position. At Dental Science, we also monitor patients after completing active treatment to ensure that results are maintained over time.

The total duration of treatment varies between 6 and 24 months, depending on the complexity of the case. Mild cases, such as a minor frontal crowding or an isolated diastema, can be completed in 6 to 9 months. Moderate cases, involving multiple movements in both arches, usually require 12 to 24 months.

An important factor influencing the duration is the observance of the wearing time: the aligners must be worn at least 22 hours a day to be effective. Dr. Alina Gheorghiu communicates the estimated duration from the planning stage, so the patient knows from the start what to expect.

#for whom

To whom is the invisible brace recommended?

To whom is the invisible brace recommended?

Clear braces are a versatile orthodontic solution suitable for a wide range of cases, from mild dental alignment problems to moderate orthodontic anomalies. Dr. Alina Gheorghiu evaluates each patient individually in a full consultation at our sector 6 clinic to determine if aligners are the optimal solution or if another orthodontic approach would be more appropriate. Here are the main indications for treatment with invisible aligners:

Dental congestion

When teeth overlap or don't have enough space on the arch, invisible aligners can create space and guide each tooth into the correct position. It is one of the most common situations for which patients from sector 6 and adjacent areas call our clinic.

Interdental spaces (diastema, treme)

Visible spaces between the teeth, especially in the frontal area, can be effectively closed with the help of aligners, without classic fixed appliances that are less aesthetic.

Occlusion problems

Open bite, deep bite or cross bite can be corrected with invisible braces in mild and moderate cases. These problems, left untreated, can lead to muscle and joint pain, cracks, tooth fractures, abrasions and worsening of periodontal disease. For complex situations, Dr. Alina Gheorghiu can recommend a combined approach, tailored to the individual clinical situation.

Recurrences after previous orthodontic treatments

Patients who have worn braces in the past, but whose teeth have subsequently shifted, can benefit from quick and discreet realignment with clear braces.

Adults and teenagers

Invisible braces are recommended both for adults who want an orthodontic correction without visible impact in their professional or social life, and for teenagers who prefer a modern alternative to classic braces. At Dental Science, we treat patients of all ages, with customized solutions for each.

Frequently asked questions about invisible braces

Are the aligners visible when you wear them?

Modern clear aligners are made of state-of-the-art materials that provide superior transparency. At normal conversational distance, aligners are almost impossible to notice. Most of our patients in sector 6 report that friends and colleagues did not notice that they were wearing braces.

Can I eat anything during treatment?

Yes. Unlike fixed braces, which impose food restrictions, invisible aligners are completely removed during meals. You can eat absolutely anything as long as you brush your teeth before putting the aligners in place.

Is aligner treatment painful?

Patients feel slight pressure with each set of aligners, which is normal and indicates that the teeth are moving as planned. This sensation usually goes away in 2 to 3 days and is significantly less than the discomfort associated with fixed braces.

How are aligners cleaned?

The aligners are rinsed with soap and water and brushed with a different brush than the one used for dental hygiene (not with hot water or toothpaste). They are rinsed every time they are taken out and put back. Oral hygiene during treatment is simplified compared to classic dental appliances: normal brushing, dental floss and oral irrigator without restrictions and professional hygiene without any difficulty.

What happens if I lose or break an aligner?

Contact our clinic immediately. Depending on the stage of treatment, Dr. Alina Gheorghiu may recommend wearing the previous set until receiving a new set or moving directly to the next set. It is important not to leave your teeth out of alignment for long periods of time.

What is the difference between classic braces and invisible braces?

The classic appliance uses metal, ceramic or sapphire brackets fixed to the teeth, connected by metal springs. Invisible braces use removable transparent trays that change progressively. Aligners are more discreet, more comfortable and allow for easier oral hygiene, being preferred by patients who do not want an aesthetic impact during treatment.

How often do I have to come for a checkup?

Checkups are usually scheduled every 6 to 10 weeks, at our clinic in the Lujer area, sector 6, Bucharest. Each visit lasts approximately 15 - 30 minutes, during which time Dr. Alina Gheorghiu checks the progress and provides the next sets of alignments.

Can I wear aligners if I have dental work?

Yes, in most cases. The presence of crowns, veneers or other prosthetic restorations does not automatically exclude orthodontic treatment with invisible aligners. Dr. Alina Gheorghiu evaluates in the initial consultation the compatibility of the orthodontic treatment with the existing works and proposes adapted solutions.

What alignment systems do you use at Dental Science?

We work with the Spark system, developed by Ormco, an internationally recognized brand for predictable results and patient comfort. The choice of this system is supported by the certifications obtained by Dr. Alina Gheorghiu directly from the manufacturer, which ensures the correct application of clinical protocols.

If you are interested in an invisible dental appliance and you are from sector 6, Bucharest or the adjacent areas, we invite you to a consultation at Dental Science. We evaluate your complete case, explain all available options and propose a clear, personalized and realistic treatment plan. The consultation includes a clinical exam, a detailed discussion with Dr. Alina Gheorghiu about your aesthetic and functional expectations and, if you are a suitable candidate for treatment with aligners, a demonstration digital scan. You will leave our clinic with a clear picture of the duration, costs and possible results. The first step to the smile you want starts with an appointment.
